Getting Started
Step 1: Create a Child Theme
This is likely one of the most important first steps after installing Clean Pro.
The process of creating a child theme is extremely simple and only requires a few clicks which I walk you through in the video above or the directions below.
Quick Steps:
- Go to the Design Manager in HubSpot
- Navigate to the @marketplace folder then Helpful_Hero folder.
- Right-click on the CLEAN-6-1-theme folder and then select Create Child Theme
- Name your child theme "Clean Pro x Company Name" and click Create Child theme.
Super Important:
Once you create your child theme you'll notice that it is largely empty with the exception of a few key folders and files. That's what you want! ONLY move modules, templates, or files from the parent theme into your child theme that you need to edit at the code level or have me edit the code level.
The only exception to this rule is if you plan on utilizing multiple child themes for different websites. In this case you will want to clone versions of the Global Header and Footer module into your child theme so each website can have an independent header and footer.
Using Your Child Theme
Now that you have your Clean Pro Child Theme set up, you're going to want to make sure that you activate your Child theme when creating new web pages. Just be sure you're selecting the one that says Clean Pro x Company Name.
It will look like this.
What on earth is a "Child Theme" you might be thinking.
Simply put, a child theme allows you to create a version of the Clean Pro theme that you'll be able to edit at the code level (make customizations) while still reaping the benefits of future updates to the Clean Pro theme.
